Helping Legends Come Alive

Storytelling based on traditional folktales is a gentle way to guide young people toward constructing personal values by presenting imaginative situations in which the outcome of both wise and unwise actions and decisions can be seen. Woven into American history and culture are stories and legends of courage and sacrifice. Alice Tucker will start the day with the story of the Legend of the Bluebonnet. (no handout)

A New Tejas Star

The Tejas Star Book Award was created by the Region 1 Library Advisory Committee to promote reading in general and for readers to discover the cognitive and economic benefits of bilingualism and multilingualism. All the children of Texas will have the opportunity to select their favorite book from the Tejas Star list during the 2007-2008 academic year. Participation for all children is encouraged, not just English language learners.
